Sainsbury’s Basics Bitter: A Surprisingly Content Review

I have recently had my first voyage into the world of basics bitter.

I have previously sampled the horror of basics lager, and took my first sip with trepidation. The lager was of poor quality to the extent that I was not convinced to buy it again, despite the price.

As such, you can imagine my surprise when I consumed the generically labelled bitter and found the taste to be absent. The liquid holds less taste than water – a remarkable achievement in comparison to the blander cousin of “vanilla”. I was astounded by the absence of sense as the luke warm fluid apparently disappeared down my throat.

A purely neutral image of a can of bitter

Sainsbury’s market their orange painted cans as low budget alternative to the big brands. Coming in at 2.1% alcohol content, the “smooth and creamy” product is misleading, I did not experience either of those sensations, nor anything at all. This is a truly miraculous drink and deserves recognition for the fact.

So, while your friends have their expensive ciders and vodka-cokes, make a bee-line for the beer aisle. Head for the basics bitter, and walk straight past. That will essentially recreate the experience of consuming it.
